Whitney Onishi is a Hawaii based makeup artist specializing in beauty and character design. From a young age she was fascinated by the entertainment industry. She was intrigued by how actors, actresses and musicians were transformed into different characters and the drama the transformations make.
To explore her love of makeup, she graduated from the Esthetician Program at Honolulu Community College and went on to get licensed as a Beauty Operator specializing in Esthetics in the State of Hawaii. While completing her BA at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, she explored designing different characters through a stage makeup course offered by the performing arts department. She later designed the makeup for the university’s production of Hairspray and assisted on other later productions.
Pursuing her love for make up and character design, Whitney moved to New York City to attend the Multimedia Program at Makeup Designory (MUD). During this intensive training, she designed makeup for a series of beauty and fashion photo shoots, including creating a range of characters.
She hopes to grow and refine her art by designing inspirational and detailed characters. She continues to learn and seek new opportunities to bring life to her characters and to entertain and spread happiness through her makeup designs.
